Based in Duabi, the city frequently criticised by the media as a 3rd world country with a 1st world vaneer I took over a leading role of a disfunctional transport business where hundreds of thousands had evapourated in fuel theft and unrecorded maintenance costs.
The company is 70 years old and the largest business in the region with more than 40 companies trading across Middle East in Road Transport, Real Estate, Car hire, Freight, Warehousing & Distribution of global brands Toyota, Honda, Jeep, Volvo, Toshiba, Sanyo, M&S, Ikea, Hino, Aftron, Toshiba and many others.
The group retails Dodge, Honda, Jeep, Toyota, Chrysler, Hino and a long list of comsumer brands and electonics. global Names like Ikea, M&S, Toshiba an Aftron fall under the Al-Futtaim banner and theretail mallFestval city is the flag shipof the group's retailing sector.
I arrived to manage the transport function. A fleet of Volvo trucks provides LTL and FTL services across GCC countries and the distribution of automotive parts and consumer goods throughout UAE. A fleet of Hino trucks distributes cars to a large chain of Al-Futtaim showrooms.
A team of business managers like myself took responsibility for their individual business sector. Apart from the management of day to day transport operations my role was to re-vitalised the business with ISO procedures, European transport standards, SOPs and SLAs suitable for the Middle East.
