Automotive & Fleet Maintenance UK
Director of Automotive Repairand Commercial Fleet Management Business

Automotive engineering took me through various areas of the industry from Dealership, Motor Sport, Utiliy fleets, Construction plant, Tanker fleet, Hovercraft. Along the way as an employee in a utlity company where I struggled to meet rising mortgage rates. I identified a need for fleet maintenance out of normal hours and I set up a mobile business providing that service to other fleet users.
That was successful in more than one way. Not only did it generate an income exceeding my modest salary but it won a lucrative contract to a utility company as privatisation forced the reduction of direct labour in favour of outsourcing. My former employer became my biggest customer overnight.
My former mobile mainteance business had taken off and occupied large commercial premises in a popular industrial area. It wasn't long before I acquired additional sales and repair facilities in the form of a garage business in a more affluent area of UK and re-developed it quite quickly turning my £400 investment into a business funding my motor sport interests.

News Paper advertisment of the 90s
As utility companies phased out direct labour in favour of contractors I picked up their fleet business to replace the shrinking utilies fleet. The non commercial side of the business providing automotive services to the public lost somecustomers of the original mobile maintenance business but picked up new business in the in thearea of my new location. My days grew longer and motor sport was pushed to one side to make more time for work.
